About Healthiest Employers in Kentucky

Since 2009, Healthiest Employers® have celebrated organizations that continue to prioritize their employee’s well-being through investments in their health. To be considered, businesses fill out an annual Healthiest Employers application, which is then scored on a 1 – 100 Rubric style methodology. Following this scoring process, a Healthiest Employers Index (HEI) is then given to every application to assist in the ranking process.

The Strategic Approach to Employee Wellness

Physical

When thinking about employee well-being, typically the first thing that comes to mind is physical fitness. This year, Strategic Communications launched an 8-week Spring/Summer Wellness Challenge which emphasized body mass improvement, weight loss, and physical activities. The grand prize included a long weekend getaway while top performers received supplementary gift card rewards.

In 2023, the company held a step challenge and donated to charity for every 1 million steps achieved. At the end of the challenge, employees had accumulated almost 16 million steps with over $18,000 donated to non-profits.

Mental

Mental health is not taken lightly at Strategic Communications. While there is still some lingering stigma surrounding mental health, we want to empower our employees to access the help they need without feeling judged. Strategic Communications provides access to two different Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) that offer three free counseling sessions annually along with multiple other tools to support work-life balance.

Financial

It’s no secret that financial health is a key part of overall well-being — but it can be one that employers overlook when seeking to better support their employees. According to a MarketWatch survey, 65% of Americans indicate that the biggest source of stress in their lives is their finances.

To promote financial wellness internally, Strategic Communications hosts periodic webinars and seminars for critical skills like budgeting, credit protection, and home savings.

Social Well-Being

On top of these other critical aspects to employee well-being is that of camaraderie and culture which is fostered through intentional social engagement. An organization’s company culture is extremely important as this can significantly impact retention via employee satisfaction.

There are several different ways that Strategic Communications fosters engagement internally through employee activities like catered luncheons during busy seasons, fun themed days during peak periods, and offsite team-building events where employees can bring their families to participate. Additionally, Strategic Communications gives back to our immediate community by volunteering with the Salvation Army during Christmas and through organizing at least one volunteer or fundraising activity for local non-profits each quarter.

Strategic Communications’ Human Resources Director Paige Reh is a driving force behind the company’s commitment to our employees — and a huge fan of how we show up for our people!

“I love the fact that Strategic’s wellness initiatives don’t focus on one specific area,” said Reh. “We do our best to look at wellness holistically and consider employee’s physical, financial, emotional, and social well-being. Although we are a small organization in terms of headcount, I’m grateful that executive leadership goes above and beyond in terms of providing resources to better the lives of our staff.”
