March’s Employees of the Month at Strategic

Every month, the employees at Strategic Communications are given the opportunity to acknowledge exemplary colleagues within or outside their department. Three individuals were chosen by their coworkers for their commitment to customer service, perseverance in the face of challenges, and can-do attitudes!

Alexis McDonald | Sr Cloud Sales Administrator

• How long have you worked for Strategic Communications?

I joined the team in April 2020.

• What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding or fulfilling?

After spending hours of reading and trying to determine if something is a good deal to send to Sales, I feel great when they win it.  

• If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

See across great distances like Lion-O

• What’s the last song you listened to?

Pick anything from Rage Against the Machine.

• What’s one thing on your bucket list?

Spend a week with my childhood pen pal in New Zealand


Sam Deckel | Marketing Coordinator

• How long have you worked for Strategic Communications?

I’ve been with Strategic for a bit more than 3 years now

• What is your favorite project that you’ve worked on at Strategic?

I really enjoy planning some of our local events here in Louisville – so whether planning and executing our annual Sales Kick Off or the Bourbon Tasting A/V Event that we hosted last fall.

• What does your dream vacation look like?

I’d like to go back to Japan at some point – I spent a summer there studying abroad in college and would love to go back someday.

• What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

Always take care of your team and do anything you can to help others grow in their roles and positions.

• Who is your favorite musical artist, and what was the first concert you attended?

First concert was Forecastle 2012 Wilco was the headliner that year. Favorite artist is a hard one, right now it’s probably Kendrick Lamar.

• How would your family, friends, or coworkers describe you in three words?

Thoughtful, Kind, Funny

• What is your current favorite TV Show, Podcast, or Book that you’d like to share with the world?

I’ve been watching a lot of Curb Your Enthusiasm lately – hilarious show.


Wyatt Phelps | Cabling Technician

• How long have you worked for Strategic Communications?

I have worked at strategic for 1 year as of January 7th

• What was your background prior to working for Strategic Communications?

My background before strategic. I was a welder/ fabricator for 4 years right out of high school. I was a union carpenter for about 6 months. I remodeled houses for 1.5 years after that. I worked at a machine shop for about 1.5 years after that. While I was welding the first year out of high school I did 1 year of collage and decided that was not for me.

• What aspect of your job do you find most rewarding or fulfilling?

The most rewarding part of my job is watching all the electronics power up and start working like it should after the job is done. Along with that is putting out quality work that the customer sees and appreciates.

• What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?

Let your work speak for itself. Don’t talk about how good you are just do it and let other people see. At the same time stay humble and know your role.

• Outside of work, what are you passionate about/enjoy doing?

Outside of work I I enjoy riding dirt bikes with my son, working on old hotrods with my dad and pushing myself as hard as possible in the gym.

• What is something that people may not know about you?

One time I made a potato gun it shot potatoes about 4-500 feet depending on how much hair spray you put in it.
